Antoine de Saint-Exupery once said “You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.” It is a shame people so easily forget that simple truth. The animals that are put in our care become our responsibility, they are not things that can be just left behind. They have feelings, they are sentient, and starving them and leaving them to die is cruel and evil.
Luckily there are also people who will go out of their way to help those animals. They will look after them, even when it’s time-consuming and expensive, and ungrateful. Because we all carry a responsibility for the things we have tamed.
Watch this moving video of Benny, horse which was left to die of starvation. His recovery is amazing, but he shouldn’t have needed to recover in the first place. Beware though, the video has some upsetting images of emaciated Benny.
